We are proud to match modern designed paper and gift goods with the best and brightest retailers across the nation and beyond.

Meet Carina Murray
Founder of Crow and Canary
Washington and Oregon sales rep and consultant

A childhood obsession with Sanrio stationery sets ignited a life long love for cards and paper. Carina also credits her dad for being an excellent pen pal and unearthing some of the neatest greeting cards a girl could dream of in her formative years.

Carina began experimenting with letterpress typesetting during her undergraduate days at The Evergreen State College and just can’t bare to part with the Chandler & Price platen press that currently lives in her garage.

An ardor for snail mail and great design were driving forces in the formation of Crow and Canary in 2006. Carina is a true champion of independent stationers and designers, she hopes that her passion and adoration for her job are clearly communicated by her enthusiasm for the industry. Carina resides in picturesque Portland with her husband, Brian and their pup, Ula and a slightly grumpy, lop-eared bunny called, Sherman.

Meet Kendra Gjerseth
Northern California sales rep

Greeting cards have always fascinated Kendra. As a child, she was mesmerized by the army of cards with embossed roses, foil-stamped typefaces and family members’ handwritten notes, all lined up on the television set in celebration. She admired how her grandfather cherished the greeting cards he received so much that he kept every one of them in his top dresser drawer. Kendra had no idea that one day, she would build a career in greeting cards: first as a manufacturer of a card line — then as a stationery boutique owner — and now as designer’s rep, 2015 marks Kendra’s 5th year as a canary!

When not driving the scenic roads of Northern California or feeding her meter, Kendra spends time volunteering with The Rotary Club of Los Altos, in which she is currently president, and showering her dog Millie with love and attention.

Meet Christine Shelly
Southern California sales rep

Christine is proud to have neatly hoarded every card, letter and valentine she has ever received – many still in the original envelope. Her most current collection includes birthday and holiday cards featuring dachshunds (Christine and her husband have had several over the years).

A corporate job in the licensing world originally brought Christine to the National Stationery Show where she was thrilled to be surrounded by paper. Since then, she has been drawn to the smaller, unique independent lines that are at the heart of C&C. After leaving the corporate world, Christine has found joy working with retailers and manufacturers alike.

Christine enjoys learning and tackling various home improvement projects to renovate her 1920’s Spanish style home. She can often be found discovering treasures at antiques stores and flea markets.

Meet Kimberley Yurkiewicz
New York, New Jersey and Connecticut sales rep

Kimberley can’t remember a time when she didn’t love the mail. Having moved around a lot when she was younger than email, keeping in touch via letters to pen pals was the norm. Her first stationery memory is of a mustard-yellow lined notepad with three brown bubble letters across the top: k-i-m. she has since expanded her taste and style a bit from grade school, but that thrill of a “good mail day” remains the same.

From early days at a letterpress studio, adding both wholesale and retail management experience, to manufacturing and custom printing expertise, with valuable stops along the way at Crane & Co. and Kate’s Paperie — and her own boutique, Letterbox — Kimberley has happily reached the point of using all of it to be a brain-stormer and cheerleader for her favorite designers and retailers. she is over the moon living in Brooklyn with her husband, Zach, and thinks New York is just about the best place on earth.

Meet Alex Hurley
Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia sales rep

Alex’s love of all things paper started in the school supply aisle, of all places. She loved all the new notepads, notebooks and pens and the fresh start that they promised. She knew she had the retail bug early on and she perfected her retail and sales skills at Neiman Marcus. After having her two sons, Alex decided to step out of the 9 to 5 world and create her own stationery line. This helped her foster her creative side and indulge in her favorite hobby, scoping out cute little paper and gift stores in every city from Nantucket to Washington, DC. After developing a product line she then transitioned to a home-based stationery studio. Alex landed in our nest in 2011, looking for an opportunity to help us grow our business in the mid-Atlantic region.

She loves spending time with her family and friends and taking advantage of the many perks that come with living in Maryland like popping into a museum in DC on a whim or taking a day trip to the slopes.

Meet Deva Amontea
Massachusetts & Rhode Island sales rep

Deva’s love for stationery stems from her social nature, attention to detail, and appreciation of good design.

In her youth, the notes Deva passed in class were always expertly folded and perfectly penned. Her sticker book was unrivaled and the envy of all her friends. Ever the social butterfly and always the one thinking and caring for others, Deva inevitably found herself in two “made-for-her careers”: A nurse and a stationery boutique manager; she worked for seven years at Social Graces in Hingham, Massachusetts.

Deva enjoys spending time alongside her husband and pitbull puppy, renovating and decorating their newly bought home in Providence, Rhode Island.

MartiMeet Marti Emmons
Office manager

Each Canary is ever so grateful to have Marti behind the scenes updating our ordering system daily and keeping countless parts of the business running smoothly.

Marti is one busy bird! She works part-time for C&C, manages an apartment building and is a shop gal extraordinaire at Mirador,  an independently owned kitchen and home store. Marti is also the designer and proprietor behind Coco Delay, an eco-friendly, handmade jewelry line. She has called Portland, Oregon home the last several years, but has also been a New Yorker, Californian and Tennessean.

When Marti’s not flying from one job to another, her favorite pastime is hunting for decorative or recycled paper to fashion into her latest jewelry creation.

Meet Maggie Ammons
C&C trade show maven

Maggie is our go-to, honorary canary when it comes to NY Now and the National Stationery Show. Having been with us for countless wholesale show we’ve exhibited at in the Javits, she knows our lines inside and out and could probably write an order with one eye closed.

Known in the stationery industry for having worked as a sidelines buyer for a well known book store in Manhattan, Maggie is currently buying for a stellar stationery and gift shop in Philadelphia, where she now resides. Maggie has had a lifelong love affair with paper goods and her collection of vintage ephemera is, more or less, unrivaled.

On nearly any given day, you can find her surrounded by one or more of the following: pizza, adorable baby animals and guilty pleasure pop music.
